Dr. Noel Biodun Saliu

Dr. Noel Biodun Saliu is the former Deputy Executive Secretary (Academics) at the National Universities Commission (NUC), Nigeria, and a seasoned biochemist and higher education administrator.

Dr. Saliu holds a B.Sc, M.Sc, and Ph.D in Biochemistry from the University of Ilorin, with a specialisation in Biochemical Toxicology. He began his career at the NUC in 1990 as a Research Officer II and has since held several strategic roles, including Deputy Director of Research Administration and Monitoring, Director of Inspection and Monitoring, and Director of Academic Planning. His appointment as Deputy Executive Secretary (Academics) took effect on 1st February 2023, recognising his commitment and performance in advancing Nigeria’s university system.

Over the years, Dr. Saliu has led numerous national and international quality assurance initiatives. He has been involved in institutional accreditation, programme reviews, and capacity-building workshops across Africa, including collaborations with UNESCO, the Association of African Universities, and the Virtual Institute for Higher Education in Africa (VIHEAF). His work has focused on strengthening academic standards, promoting research excellence, and enhancing governance structures within Nigerian universities.

Dr. Saliu is also listed in the Asia-Pacific Quality Network (APQN) Consultants Directory, reflecting his global recognition in quality assurance and academic planning. He has received awards for his contributions, including the Best Worker of the Year in the NUC’s Department of Research and Postgraduate Development in 1995. Fluent in Yoruba and English, he continues to play a pivotal role in shaping policy and academic frameworks for higher education in Nigeria.
